Jackie Wayne Cox, Jr. passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021. He was born March 10, 1969 (52) in Goldendale, Washington to Jackie Wayne Cox, Sr. and Kathryn L. Cox Henry. He grew up in Asotin and Clarkston, WA with his three siblings - Lorena Lynch, Tessie Carr, and Lonnie Cox. He graduated from Asotin High School in 1988. After graduation in 1988, he worked for a few years at Goodwill Industries before joining the U.S. Army in 1991. He served in many different positions from scout to artillery and retired in 2018 as Staff Sergeant with an MOS of 92 Yankee. Duty Stations included Fort Drum, NY; Fort Hood, TX; 901st Minimal Care Detachment, Faurmont WV; Sheffield, AL and Gowen Field, ID. In January 1993, Jackie was playing pool with a group of friends. While he was bent over the pool table, Missy walked by and said, "You're going to miss." Well Jackie missed the ball but didn't miss out on the love of his life. After a year and a half of getting to know each other, Jackie married Melissa Anne Morgan on August 20, 1994. It has been said that she fell in love with his butt first and that is one of the reasons he will always be her "forever jackxxx." His career in the military began with basic training at Fort Sill, OK. His first duty station was Fort Drum, NY where he was Counter Fire Radar for four years. After Fort Drum, the military moved his family to Fort Hood, TX where he continued his career as Field Artillery Fire Finder Radar Operator. After a tour in Somalia, Haiti and Kuwait, he was honorably discharged (1998) and moved his family to Washington to be close to family. In 2000, they moved to West Virginia, and he worked as a mechanic at NTB. With a desire to continue to serve and a need to support his family, he returned to the military as AGR (Active Guard Reserve) in 2002. He served in the 901st Minimal Care Detachment in West Virginia as a supply sergeant. In 2011, he transferred to Sheffield, AL at 663rd combat engineer company. He was deployed in 2013 to Afghanistan. In 2016, the military moved the family to Idaho for his final duty station at Gowen Field, Idaho. Jackie was awarded many awards/medals throughout his career including Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Jackie's family and friends were always important to him. He had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved. Jackie enjoyed many things in life including his collections of whiskey, his woodworking, and his time in his Jeep off roading. Jackie AKA Jackal (Chief XXX) was a life member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association(r). He lived the motto veterans helping veterans. He attended many fundraisers and events since 2018. He loved the fact that his brothers and sisters understood where he had been and what he had been through. He is survived by his wife Missy Cox of 26 years; his mother Kathryn Henry; his siblings Lorena (David) Lynch, Tessie Carr, and Lonnie (Indigo) Cox; his children: Veronica (Jeremy) Haseleu, Tyler Cox, and Kayla Cox; his grandson Greyson; and many other family members including Loretta Cox, Linda Jonsson, and Father and Mother-in-law Moe and Kathy Morgan. He was preceded in death by his son Daniel Cox; his dad Jackie Cox, Sr; his step-brother Allen Bryant; niece Mary-Ann Cox; and nephews John and Shawn Carr. A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 26, 2021 at 7PM at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa, Idaho 83651. Full Military Honors will be held at a later date.
