Susan Ann Cottam of Middleton, Idaho died peacefully in her home on May 5, 2024, at the age of 72. Susan “Susie” was born on February 21, 1952, in Cardiff, Wales to Roy Norman Jones and Sylvia Louise Murray Jones and resided for several years in Great Britain. At the age of five, Susie emigrated to Canada with her parents. They resided in Oshua, Ontario, Canada where her father found work with General Motors of Canada. A few years later Susie and her parents moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where her father obtained better employment. She and her family enjoyed a number of years there and were very adventurous in seeing many locations in western Canada. It was in this area that at nine years old, Susie’s parents brought her brother home from the hospital. She really enjoyed having a little brother, whose name is David. Life was fun for her and her family while living there. Just before her last month in sixth grade, Susie’s father took a job working for Brewer in Hawaii. Her family searched for housing and discovered that it was too expensive for their budget. After deciding they could not afford to live there, her family relocated to Santa Barbara, a beautiful city on the southern coast of California. Things worked out well for her family there. Susie attended junior high and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1970. Her interests in school were Latin and English, and she pursued gymnastics, modern dance and participated in several stage productions. She was a great student and was always on the honor roll. After graduation, Susie attended Brigham Young University studying Latin and Greek in the classic languages. She had joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she turned eighteen. Later she met Ken Cottam. After dating for a year, they were married and sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on May 31, 1972. The highlight of Susie’s life was her husband, children, and grandchildren-her “Forever Family,” which brought her great joy and purpose. Susie served diligently in every community in which she lived. She loved her church and served in many capacities throughout her life, most recently being a temple worker. Susie was valiant in her testimony of Jesus Christ, always mindful to follow his example by lifting another with an encouraging word, a thoughtful gift or act of service.Other highlights in Susie’s life include January 25,1984 in which Susie became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. In 1997 Susie began a career in the airlines industry that spanned twenty-years through three airline mergers, with the final conglomerate being American Airlines. With continuous service in both Reno, Nevada and Portland, Oregon she celebrated her retirement in 2017.Over the years, Susie and her family have lived in the following areas: Provo, Pleasant Grove and Salt Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; Liberal, Kansas; Spring Valley, California; Reno, Nevada and Tualatin, Oregon. In 2017 Susie and Ken moved to Middleton, Idaho where they have resided since.Susie’s life motto was “I Do It”, which were basically the first words out of her mouth at birth. When she made a commitment to do something, she always accomplished it. She was an excellent homemaker. She loved to decorate her home for the holidays. She was talented at cooking and sewing and spent most of her spare time in her later years sewing with her embroidery machine. One of her greatest loves was traveling and adventure. She also loved to go camping in her RV with family and friends. Susie is preceded in death by her mother Sylvia Jones. She is survived by her father Roy Jones and brother David Roy Jones, her spouse Kenneth “Ken” and children Adam (Audrey), Christopher (Natalie), Samuel (Jessica) and Megan (Quinn) Brown, and her thirteen grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 22500 Lansing Lane, Middleton, Idaho.
