Shirley Rae Smith

Shirley passed away peacefully, in her sleep on June 5, 2021, at age 89. She was born on July 29, 1931 in Pocatello, Idaho to Roger and Ilene Stoker. She was an only child. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Brigham Young University, where she met her husband Dr. Marvin G. Smith. Marvin, her husband of 67 years, has survived her. Shirley had 5 children: Gregory Smith (Laura), Sheri Santa (Cesar), Bradlee M. Smith (Susan), Tracey McNeil (Michael) and Diane Bryson (Shannon). All children have survived her except Tracey who passed away in 2001 and Mike who passed away in 2019. She has 11 grandchildren: Bradlee L., Adam, Ashley, Tyler, Devin, Sophie, Rebecca, Jakob, Andrew, Allison and Austin. Also, Shirley has 6 great-grandsons: Jaxon, Keaton, Ruger, Archer, Parker, and Camden. She was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her family was the highlight in her life. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. Shirley was a talented seamstress. She sewed many of her own clothes and even made her own wedding dress. She would sew in the evening hours after kids were in bed and sew many of their clothes. She even made curtains for their first home. Marvin gave her many projects including making several custom-made fishing packs that he would design with many pockets and zippers. She willingly took on those tasks. She loved decorating with flowers and was quite artistic. She worked, when the kids were older, at a gift shop, that a couple in the neighborhood owned, making the flower arrangements. She was always trying to learn how to prepare healthy foods for her family. She would make wheat bread and grind the wheat to have fresh flour. Shirley loved spending time with family. She cherished holidays and birthdays spent together with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley and Marvin even made regular trips, twice a year, to another state to spend time with their grandchildren. Heavenly Father sent an angel to this mortal world to be our mother; she was an unselfish loving person, and the glue that held our family together for 67 years. Her influence and example will have an effect for generations to come in our family.
