Larry Lynn Waters, age 65, of Meridian Idaho passed away abruptly on Friday, March 26, 2021 while golfing with two of his sons. Larry was the fourth child of seven born to Emma "Lucille" Hogenson Waters and Clifford Ray Waters in Provo, Utah on March 28, 1955. When he was young, the family lived in Australia and New Zealand while his father supervised the building of church chapels. After completing the mission, the family settled in Newbury Park, California. He graduated in 1973 from Newbury Park High School. He attended Arizona Automotive Institute and received an Automotive Service Technology certificate in 1974. It was while he was attending Arizona Automotive that he returned to activation in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and desired to serve a full-time mission. He served a two-year mission in the Oregon Portland Mission from 1975-1977. He loved his mission service and shared experiences that he had often with family and friends. Upon returning from his mission, he moved to Boise, Idaho and not long after, his parents and younger siblings left California and settled in Boise also. While attending single adult activities, Larry and Connie met and fell in love. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 24, 1979. Larry attended Boise State University and worked odd jobs to support his family. He continued his education and working as the family grew to include five precious spirts. The family moved to Moscow, Idaho in 1986 so Larry could finish his engineering degree. At age 36, with a family of five kids, he graduated from University of Idaho in May 1990. He went to work for Idaho Power Company as a dam engineer building dams at Swan Falls and Milner. He was a hard worker and took pride in the work that he was doing. He worked at various positions at DEQ and Department of Agriculture. He was laid off in 2007 and took this opportunity to pursue a master's degree at BSU and graduated in 2009. He returned to DEQ and the next year passed the Professional Engineering exam. He was so excited and proud to have earned the PE designation. He was currently the Wastewater Engineering Bureau Chief at DEQ. Larry was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities within the church. He especially loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Boise Idaho Temple. He looked forward to working on the Tuesday evening shift and has missed that service during the pandemic shutdown. He had a special love of music and enjoyed singing in the ward choir. He would often go about the house whistling the tune that he was learning. He loved the scriptures and often said that the only books besides technical work-related books worth reading were the scriptures. He loved his family above all else and prayed daily for their well-being. He was truly the patriarch of our family. He was an honest, quiet and unassuming man who built up everyone around him. He was a man of talent and skill; he was a fixer and a builder. He was good with his hands and always had more projects than time. He was most recently working on framing and electrical work in his woodshop that would occupy his time when he retired. Larry could always be counted on when family or friends needed assistance putting together sprinkler systems, making repairs or doing home and yard projects. He was our rock and he will be forever loved and missed. Larry is survived by his wife, Connie Ann Barfuss Waters; their five children: Jared (Hillary) Waters, Jason (Carmen) Waters, Jessica (Jonathan) Henderson, Stephanie (Brian) Gillenwater and Brandon Waters. He is survived by 17 grandchildren: Valerie Waters, Jackson Waters, Jeffrey Waters, Easton Waters, Wilson Waters, Matthias Waters, Saebra Waters, Thorrin Waters, Tyrus Henderson, Quinn Henderson, Truman Henderson, Atlas Henderson, Cypress Henderson, Mayley Gillenwater, Arthur Gillenwater, Cannon Gillenwater and Daisy Gillenwater. He is also survived by his siblings: Bonnie (Jerry) Cramer, Lorne Waters, Randall (Jana) Waters, Cheryl (Richard) Hartley, Robin Waters Miller Ozment and Robert (Shelly) Waters; and many nieces and nephews-each family member, so unique and precious to Larry and our Father in Heaven. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 2 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2555 S. Stoddard Rd in Meridian, with a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 AM prior to the services. Burial will be in the Cloverdale Memorial Park, 1200 N Cloverdale Rd in Boise.
