Life & Legacy
Stephanie Lynne Engle, a devoted mother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Pocatello, Idaho, at the age of 53, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her strength, positivity, and love for others were unwavering to the very end.

Born on April 16, 1972, in Pocatello to Ivan and Patricia (Hocking) May, Stephanie’s life was marked by compassion, laughter, and a selfless dedication to her family and students.

Early Life & Education
Stephanie grew up in Pocatello and graduated from Highland High School in 1990, where she proudly performed as a member of the drill team. She later attended Idaho State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education while raising her children—a reflection of her determination and love for learning.

Family & Career
Stephanie’s greatest joy in life was being a mother. She welcomed her three beloved children—Daniel in 1996, Tyler in 1997, and Ashley in 2001. Her world revolved around them, and her happiest moments were spent together as a family. Whether camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, or playing games, Stephanie was always present, always smiling, and always encouraging those around her.

Her dedication extended to her teaching career, where she spent nearly 20 years shaping young lives. She taught first grade at Mountain View Elementary in McCammon for most of her career and later third grade at Mackay Elementary. Stephanie’s classroom was filled with laughter, encouragement, and care. She went above and beyond for every student—her impact lasting far beyond the school walls, as many former students stayed in touch with her well into adulthood.

Interests & Character
Stephanie loved the outdoors—camping, fishing, and exploring the beauty of Idaho brought her peace and joy. She was known for her delicious cooking, her warmth, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her home was often full of family, friends, and laughter. She had a competitive but playful spirit, whether it was board games with family or throwing darts with friends.

She will be remembered for her bright smile, infectious laugh, and the way she made every person feel valued and loved. She was the kind of person who made ordinary moments extraordinary simply by being there.

Family
Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Patricia May. She is survived by her brother Greg May; her children Daniel Mathis (Rosie), Tyler Mathis, and Ashley Barnhard (Nick); and her two beloved dogs, Whitie and Max—her constant companions.
